Valerie Rodriguez Black
Valerie Rodriguez Black picture

Valerie Rodriguez Black is a California native who has worked in all areas of film including producing, writing, and line producing. She was Production Executive at Upload Films for three years, specializing in bringing films to Baton Rouge. Black is founder and president of Louisiana Arts & Film Organization, and an adjunct professor at Baton Rouge Community College where she has mentored over 100 students and community members interested in joining the film industry.

Screening: The Freddies (Rated PG)

While battling through yet another failed marriage, dealing with various addictions, and being ostracized from his family, Freddy finds strange comfort in the resemblance a mannequin has to his recently deceased grandfather and decides to bring it to the funeral. This does not go well. The film, written by M.O. Walsh and Directed by Valerie Rodriguez Black, was the winner of the 2011 Louisiana Arts and Film Organization Screenwriting Award.  It is based on Walsh's short story of the same name from his book The Prospect of Magic
