2012 Frequently Asked Volunteer Questions

Will there be any training involved?

You will receive your volunteer assignment during a training session where you will meet your immediate leader. For your convenience we will schedule three sessions at various times.

What do I wear/bring the day of the festival?

Volunteers will wear a specially designed T-shirt which they will receive upon arrival to the festival. T-shirts are not gauranteed to volunteers who sign up after Oct. 6.

Volunteers should wear comfortable slacks/jeans, long shorts or a skirt in a solid color.

Volunteers sould wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to stand a lot.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring a sun visor, hat, sunscreen or rain gear - weather dictating.

Unfortunately, the space in the Volunteer Tent is not secure. Therefore, the festival cannot store personal items.

Where do I park?

There are a number of parking garages and parking lots available to Festival attendees. Most are within easy walking distance to the Festival area. Volunteers will receive a map for specific locations during training.

Where do I check in on the day I volunteer?

All volunteers should check in at the Volunteer Tent at the time assigned, not before. Volunteers do not need to arrive early, shifts have been designed to allow for check in. Upon check in, volunteers will receive assignments, directions to volunteer locations, name tag and Louisiana Book Festival T-shirts.

Where do I go when I complete my assignment?

Volunteers are to return to the volunteer check in site when they have finished their assignments to turn in their volunteer evaluations.

What if I am unable to fulfill my volunteer commitment?

Volunteers unable to fulfill their commitment should make an effort to find a replacement and share information with the replacement and contact the Volunteer Coordinator with the replacement’s name and contact information. Call staff if a replacement is unable to be secured.
