LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL FEATURED PROGRAM: SCREENING THE FANTASTIC FLYING BOOKS OF MR. MORRIS LESSMORE

LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL FEATURED PROGRAM: SCREENING THE FANTASTIC FLYING BOOKS OF MR. MORRIS LESSMORE

The Louisiana Book Festival will feature two screenings of the 2011 Academy Award-winning short animated film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.

The film was produced by Moonbot Studios in Shreveport and directed by Brandon Oldenburg and William Joyce. Joyce, a native of Shreveport, was the 2008 winner of the Louisiana Writer Award.

The film finds Morris Lessmore in the French Quarter of New Orleans writing his memoir when suddenly a hurricane strikes, blowing away his writings. After the storm passes, Morris encounters flying books that eventually lead him to become the proprietor of a special library.

Joyce named the character Morris Lessmore after his mentor William Morris. The screenings will be introduced by young adult author John Corey Whaley, a winner of the William C. Morris Young Adult Debut Award.

The first screening of this family appropriate short film will be at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol in House Committee Room 5 and will be screened again at 4:15 p.m. at the Capitol Park Welcome Center.

The 2012 Louisiana Book Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Listen to and interact with more than 145 authors, listen to live music and enjoy Louisiana cuisine, bring your children to enjoy the Young Readers’ Pavilion and other activities for youths.
