LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL TO HOST AUTHOR ROBERT OLEN BUTLER

The Louisiana Book Festival welcomes author Robert Olen Butler to its ninth annual celebration of readers and writers October 27. Butler will discuss his latest novel, The Hot Country.

Set in 1914, The Hot Country follows an American newspaper war correspondent, Kit Cobb, to the battlefields of the Mexican Civil War. While in Mexico, the young journalist falls in love with a laundress.

Cobb’s journalistic instincts lead him on a search to find out who shot a local priest. Soon, he also wonders why German officials are arriving on ammunition ships.

Butler is a Francis Eppes Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at Florida State University. He has served as a Literary Envoy for the U.S. State Department.

Butler is the author of 12 novels and six short story collections, including Pulitzer Prize-winning A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. The Hot Country is his first foray in crime-fiction writing.

The Louisiana Book Festival is Sat., Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Baton Rouge. It is free and open to the public.

The Louisiana Book Festival is co-sponsored by the Office of Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne, the Louisiana Center for the Book; the State Library of Louisiana; the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, and the Louisiana Library Foundation. It is funded through federal grants as well as private sponsors such as the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
