AUTHOR WALTER DEAN MYERS TO APPEAR AT LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL

The Louisiana Book Festival welcomes Walter Dean Myers to its ninth annual celebration of readers and writers Sat., Oct. 27.  Myers will be attending as National Ambassador for Young People’s literature representing the Library of Congress Center for the Book and the Children’s Book Council.

In addition to presenting a workshop for authors of fiction for young adults and visiting with local students on the Friday before the festival, Myers will appear at the festival to discuss his work and his message as Ambassador: “Reading Is Not Optional.”

Myers, the first-ever recipient of the ALA Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, will be interviewed appropriately by the award’s current honoree, Louisiana’s Young Adult author John Corey Whaley.

Myers is a New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed author of fiction, nonfiction and poetry for young readers, including the highly honored and regarded novels Monster and Kick.

The Louisiana Book Festival is Sat., Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Baton Rouge. Free and open to the public, the festival will feature presentations by Louisiana and Southern writers as well as national bestselling authors.

The Louisiana Book Festival is co-sponsored by the Office of Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne, the Louisiana Center for the Book; the State Library of Louisiana; the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, and the Louisiana Library Foundation. It is funded through federal grants as well as private sponsors such as the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
